RAINIER VALLEY – A 21-year woman has died from injuries sustained in this morning’s mass shooting in Southeast Seattle.
Two other females, 17 and 18 years old, two 20-year-old men and one 21-year-old man were also injured.
Police say the shooting came hours after they responded to several other incidents at the house party, attended by several hundred people, near Renton Avenue South and Lindsey Place South in Rainier Beach.
“According to witnesses, someone in the backyard of the home fired several shots into the air, sending the crowd at the party scattering,” said Seattle Police Department (SPD) spokesman Mark Jamieson. “At least 20-30 shots were fired during the incident.”
Officers from several precincts, as well as officers from Tukwila and King County responded to the scene.
“Homicide and CSI detectives are investigating the possibility several that people fired shots during the incident,” added Jamieson. “But do not have any suspect information to release at this time.”
The shooting comes four months after SPD asked for the public’s help in fighting a sharp rise in violent crime that they called a “public safety emergency.”
This morning’s victim is the 22nd in Seattle to die this year from gunfire; the seventh in the Rainier Valley.
