Another Pedestrian Hit, Killed While Crossing Rainier Valley Thoroughfare

OTHELLO – Seattle Police say that another pedestrian has been hit and killed while crossing a Southeast Seattle thoroughfare – the second in just one month.

According to SPD spokesperson Detective Renee Witt, it was just before 8 pm Thursday when a 52-year old male was crossing Martin Luther King, Jr. Way at S. Myrtle Street.

She said a vehicle that was traveling northbound in lane #2 on MLK, Jr. Way South when it struck the man.

The pedestrian died at the scene. The driver – an adult male and sole occupant of the vehicle – showed no signs impairment.

The victim in this case was the fourth pedestrian struck by a car while crossing a Rainier Valley thoroughfare and the second to have been killed in just one month.

Last week, an 86-year-old woman was struck by a light rail train while she was crossing Martin Luther King Jr. Way South at South Graham Street using a walker, officials said.
