COLUMBIA CITY – A local church is in search of volunteers to help host a rotating emergency family shelter next month.
In partnership with Mary’s Place, Columbia City Church of Hope will host up to 14 moms and their kids who are experiencing homelessness from October 2 through 16.
“This will be our third time hosting, and we have had great response from neighbors wanting to help out to address the crisis of family homelessness in the city,” said Rev. Darla DeFrance. “I’ve also invited several councilmembers and the mayor and deputy mayor–this would be a great chance for them to be involved with a grass roots effort to make change for the better in this city!”
Volunteers are needed each day to:
- prepare and serve a warm, nutritious dinner (5:30-7:30pm)
- serve as evening hosts (6-9pm)
- spend the night (9pm-7am)
- donate breakfast foods
- clean the space
Volunteers will be asked to attend a brief (20-30 min) training at the church either Tues., Sept. 27 at 7 pm or Sun., Sept. 30 at noon. Find more info here.
Columbia City Church of Hope (206-722-5651) is located at 3818 South Angeline Street.
