2 pm: After the parade, Mayor Mike McGinn helped “open” Rainier Avenue to foot traffic for the Summer Streets part of the event that was organized by the Seattle Department of Transportation.

2:30 pm: The parade was incredible! More than a thousand spectators lined the streets on one of the most beautiful days of the year to cheer on nearly 70 entries.

Winners include Grupo Ameyatonal Aztec Dance Group (Most Creative), the Washington Diamonds Drill Team and Lottie’s Lounge/Andaluz (Most Community Spirit) and Pacific Northwest Drum Line (Best Overall Performance). 11 am: Rainier Chamber Executive Director Susan Davis just gave the word: “Start the parade!”

10:45 am: Excitement is building as hundreds gather to watch the 19th annual Rainier Valley Heritage Parade on Rainier Ave. S. in Columbia City.
