RAINIER VALLEY – A man has been arrested after taking an 8-month-old child during a custody dispute in Seattle’s Mount Baker neighborhood late Friday morning.
Det. Mark Jamieson with Seattle police said a woman called 911 from the Safeway parking lot in the 3800 block of Rainier Ave. S. reporting her estranged boyfriend had intentionally hit her car, then took their 8-month-old child and drove off.
As officers swarmed the area looking for the man’s car, another officer managed to reach the man on the phone and convinced him to return to the parking lot.
He arrived alone, but told officers he had left the child with relatives. Officers found the infant safe a short time later, Jamieson said.
The man was arrested and will be booked into jail.
