MT. BAKER – A man was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing Rainier Avenue South Wednesday night.

Police say it was just before 8:30 pm when the victim – a man in his 50′s  who was wearing all dark clothing – was unlawfully crossing Rainier Avenue South mid-block from west to east when he was struck by the southbound driver.

The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

“Officers evaluated the driver of the pickup truck, a man in his 70′s, for signs of impairment due to alcohol and/or drugs,” wrote SPD spokesman Jeff Kappel. “No impairment was detected.  The driver was interviewed and released from the scene.”

Traffic Collision detectives are investigating.
