RAINIER VALLEY – The Seattle Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and its 2012 Delta GEMS are gearing up for its 4th Annual Teen Summit to be held in Rainier Beach this weekend.
The organization created Delta GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) to “catch the dreams” of African American adolescent girls aged 14 through 18. The young women who participate are from various Seattle high schools.
Spokesperson Giselle Stewart cites the recent spike in youth violence in the Rainier Valley as the reason they decided to host the event here.
The “OMG – Owning My Generation” Citywide Teen Summit will be held at South Lake High School (8601 Rainier Ave. S.) on Sat., April 28, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Open to all high school teens, the free event will address issues such as teen pregnancy and prevention, self-expression and teens and technology and will include lunch, guest speakers, DJ, giveaways, a performance by ABK and more.
