Police: Alert Neighbor Leads to Arrest of Three Burglars

By Mark Solomon, South Precinct Crime Prevention Coordinator

RAINIER VALLEY – Mid-day on Sun., Jan, 27, callers to 911 reported three males that appeared to be casing homes on the 5100 Block of S. Willow Street.  Callers stated the males approached the door to a residence and knocked on the door.  A caller then stated the males made their way to the rear of the home and breaking glass was heard.

Officers responded quickly to the burglary in progress call and began setting up containment.  A witness observed an approaching SPD Officer and pointed out the house and the suspect.  In quick order, one suspect was taken into custody in the back yard of the residence as he attempted to flee and a second suspect was arrested when found hiding inside the residence bathroom.  A third suspect fled on foot and was captured in the 7100 block of Rainier Ave S.  Officers pursuing this suspect sustained minor injuries as the suspect was trying to flee through blackberry bushes.  Officers entered the thickets to contain and eventually get the suspect to surrender.

There was minimal damage to the home and all property was recovered and returned to the homeowner.  Two of the suspects were booked into King County Jail for Investigation of Burglary.  The third suspect was booked into the Youth Service Center for the same charge.
