RAINIER BEACH – Police say a pack of teenagers maced and viciously beat a Rainier Beach man with pool cues before stealing his car.
Seventeen-year-old Kersan K. Pascal was charged as an adult Wednesday with first degree robbery. Two others, a 14-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, were charged in juvenile court for the same crime.
The victim told police he was coming home from a wedding early Sunday morning when he noticed roughly 10 teenagers milling around in the street near his house, located in the 11200 block of 57th Avenue South.
After pulling up to his house, the man said a teenage girl walked over to his car and tapped on the window. She said she needed to call her mom and asked if she could use his cell phone. The man said he’d call for her, but the number she gave him didn’t work. When the man rolled down his window to ask for another number, he said the girl sprayed him in the face with mace.
Seconds later, the man said four or five other teenagers swarmed in and began punching and kicking him. They eventually pulled the man from his car and continued to beat him, according to court documents.
The teens ran off a short time later, leaving the victim bleeding in the street. The man flagged down a white car and asked the driver to call 911, but the person said he didn’t want to get involved. The victim then drove his car to a location at 56th and Beacon Avenue, where he called 911.
As he was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher, some of the same kids from the earlier attack happened to see him and once again attacked him. He said there were four main attackers, both male and female, and some of the kids appeared to be as young as 8-years old.
Two of the kids hit the man with pool cues, according to police.
As he was trying to fend off the attack, the man noticed his car being stolen. He rushed outside and tried to get in, but the doors were locked so he grabbed a side mirror and tried to hang on as the car sped away.
Thankfully, a police cruiser happened to drive by and the remaining attackers ran off. Officers soon caught up with a few of the suspected attackers, and they also found the the man’s car with suspects still inside it.
The man was able to identify three of the teens before being taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for severe head trauma and pepper spray exposure.
Though only 17-years old, Pascal already has three prior assault convictions, all of which came in 2011.
