Police: Two Targeted in Rainier Beach Shooting; No Arrests

RAINIER BEACH – Seattle Police say two men escaped injury Thursday when they were targeted in a shooting near Rainier Avenue South and South Henderson in Rainier Beach.

“A suspect fired 7-8 shots near the 9000 block of Rainier Avenue S.  just  after 3:00 p.m.,” wrote SPD spokesperson Renee Witt.

She added that a  passerby called 911 to report hearing gunfire in the area and that he saw two shirtless men running away.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted one of the victims, but the other victim left the area on his bicycle prior to the officers’ arrival.

“Neither victim was injured,” wrote Witt. “It is unclear what preceded the gunfire but detectives do not believe this was a random act.”

The suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early 20s, 6-feet tall, medium build, and short hair. He was wearing a white tank top and black basketball shorts with a red and white design.

The suspect was last seen shoving a handgun in his waist as he ran southbound past the Jack in the Box, but was not apprehended.

The Gang Unit is investigating.
