Rainier Beach Community Club Wins City Wide Recycling Contest

RAINIER BEACH – The re-energized Rainier Beach Community Club recently won $50,000 in Waste Management’s Think Green Recycling Challenge.

The contest encouraged Seattle communities to reduce their overall waste by decreasing garbage and increasing their efforts to recycle and compost. The prize for the one that reduced the most waste was a $50,000 grant to give their community a “Main Street Makeover”.

“We chose the recycling contest as our first project since RBCC re-organized because we thought it would help us to reach out to other groups in our neighborhood as well as promote something important,” said Su Harambe, President of Rainier Beach Community Club (RBCC). “And it did. I think this shows that positive things are happening in Rainier Beach and it’s just the beginning.”

Community members living in the Rainier Beach neighborhood may suggest project ideas and locations for a Main Street Makeover by sending a Project Submission Form to the Rainier Beach Community Club Board by June 30.
