RAINIER VISTA – This weekend, 20 local teens will work to improve their interviewing skills at a Career Launch Seminar hosted by the Rainier Vista Boys & Girls Club.
YouthForce Director Shawna Boggie says the teens have spent every Tuesday and Thursday evening for the last four weeks participating in workshops with YouthForce staff learning the basics of job searches and applications.
“I’ve gained job skills like how to dress, act, respond, and plan for a job and interview,” said one teen participant. “What I like most about Career Launch is the experience of having a job that helps you prepare to get a job, which makes me feel like I am acting mature and I’m getting more comfortable.”
Several local business owners and community leaders will spend the afternoon conducting mock interviews with the teens, who Boggie says are “anxious, excited and preparing their resumes, cover letters and interviewing skills” right now.
Afterwards, everyone will participate in a networking dinner that will provide the teens with the opportunity to practice interacting and carrying on casual conversation with adults.
The YouthForce University Career Launch Seminar will take place this Sat., Oct. 13, at the Joel E. Smilow Teen Center.
