MOUNT BAKER – Exciting things are happening at Hawthorne Elementary this month. The school is organizing two events to engage and connect families by building community within the school and the wider neighborhood: A Family Center Grand Opening and a Community Day of Service to complete the installation of a brand new playground.
Hawthorne will celebrate the grand opening of its new Family Center on Mon., March 19, from 8:15 to 10:15 am at the school in Room 9 — a fun and informative gathering to introduce parents and families to a comfortable, dedicated space that they can all use to take a break, get to know each other, use a computer or access information about the school, upcoming events, job opportunities, support services, adult learning and more.
In addition, the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) has chosen Hawthorne to receive a new playground. On Wed., March 21, from 10 to 1 pm, principals from all over the country are coming to do a Day of Service (co-sponsored by NAESP and Landscape Structures, Inc.), to install the $30,000+ play structure, donated by Landscape Structures Playground Company.
To celebrate, Hawthorne will host a Community Day of Service on Sat., March 24, from 10 am to 1 pm to complete the playground installation.
“Hawthorne invites friends, neighbors, local businesses and community members to join school staff and parents to finish final project tasks so the new playground can be opened as soon as possible,” said Hawthorne parent volunteer Jenn Ayers.
Free coffee and snacks will be served.
