From Paul Doyle/Columbia City Cinema:
Hooray we did it! Or rather you did it. The world’s longest rent party just keeps happening. We paid the rent and we’re half way to our goal of $20,000. That’s the magic number that will keep us going to live and movify another year.
So thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone. We are humbled and deeply grateful for your generosity and your love for the cinema.
Money has been pouring in just like that scene in It’s a Wonderful Life when the Building and Loan gets saved. So please keep it coming. Thanks to those who have already donated and thanks to those who are about to donate (about 2,000 of you). We’ve got your names.
Kickass Cinema: We are heading into a hot week. Date Night keeps dazzling audiences, Clash of the Titans pits gods against men for a last week and How to Train Your Dragon continues to charm. But the big news is Kick Ass. It opens Fri., April 16. Granted it’s not Pride and Prejudice-we live in edgier times-but its darn good. Funny, exciting, creative, it makes a very entertaining movie out of the grimness and newness around us-violence, drugs, gangs, ipods, the internet. A nerdy kid who reads comics decides to become a superhero. Spider-Man 2 with a raw edge and daring.
Heads Up: Seattle author and performer, Mary Lou Sanelli, will perform her magical one-woman show, The Immigrants Table, at the cinema on Wed., April 28, at 8 pm. The show has received rave reviews around town and in venues up and down the Pacific Coast. It played to overflow crowds at the most recent Bumbershoot. Mary Lou dramatizes events from her book of the same name.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online. Whether you buy online or at the door, we need an RSVP to find out how many are coming and in which auditorium to put the show. We expect a sellout crowd so let us know now whether you plan to come. Mary Lou was a featured author at our recent Bookfest and liked Columbia City so well she offered to come back and do the show as a benefit. Here’s a chance to see and meet a famous author and have a thoroughly entertaining and informative evening. For more information about the show go to www.marylousanelli.com.
