@Brian: I’m sure McGinn would hire more officers if he had the money. Unfortunately, the general population would rather protect our State’s Millionaires from being subject to a Washington State income tax than have the funding to provide properly for safety, parks, education and the like.

You’ll often hear anti-incumbents saying that we need to “throw the bastards out.” The problem is, with our California like ballot initiatives, the bastards making the stupid laws are us. At least we can’t amend our Constitution as easily as the Californians can. Their Constitution has been amended over 500 times, which as a friend of mine said, makes it less like a constitution, and more like a blog.

Brian,

You assume someone would be there. The desk officers of the precinct have been assisgned to the street, since McGinn won’t hire more officers.

At that time of the day, someone would likely have been there; however, there are many times of the day when all 9 patrol officers for the the S. Precinct are out of the Precinct and nobody is in the building.

If you need a cop call 911, don’t go to the precinct. If you do go to the precinct, grab the phone on the face of the building, don’t waste time trying to get help inside.

How sad that instead of discussing the actual festival, we’re discussing the latest violence in South Seattle. This is part of the impact that local violence has, drawing our attention away from the positives in our community.
And yet I’m glad that it ended up on I-5 — if they think the violence will start spilling over onto the freeway and impacting ‘regular’ folk, maybe the City will start paying attention?
So yes, a double-pronged argument. I wish we (locals) could focus more on the good things, and they (City) would focus more on the bad.
