RAINIER VALLEY – An 86-year-old woman was struck by Sound Transit’s Link light rail train Friday afternoon while she was crossing through the area using a walker, officials said.
Medics and police responded to the scene, at South Graham Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Way South, just before 2 p.m. after receiving calls about a serious injury accident.
Arriving at the scene, they found the woman on the pavement beside the train with “very significant injuries” to her torso and head, said Kyle Moore of the Seattle Fire Department.
Moore said the woman was unconscious and nonresponsive – but still breathing – when medics arrived. Her wheeled walker lay on the ground beside her.
She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center by ambulance. Her condition was not immediately known.
Sound Transit is single tracking on the southbound track at Columbia Station while police investigate the scene. The northbound platform not in use at this time.
Buses continue to transport riders between Mt. Baker and Othello Stations.
This is a developing new story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
