RAINIER VALLEY – Less than a week after a 14-year old girl says she was assaulted by a strange man at a Rainier Valley bus stop, another 14-year old says she was sexually harassed by an unknown man while walking to school this morning.
In today’s incident, Seattle Police Department (SPD) says the girl was walking northbound onto 42nd Avenue South from South Graham Street at about 8:20 a.m. when she she saw a maroon van pass her headed southbound.
“The victim then heard the vehicle turn around and a male ask if he could ask her a question,” said SPD spokesperson Detective Renee Witt. “The suspect then made several comments of a sexual nature to the victim.”
She said that the victim ran the rest of the way to school while yelling “no,” and once at school, called her mother who then called police.
The suspect is described as an East African male in his early 20s, with a thick beard.
The vehicle is described as a maroon mini-van (possibly Dodge) with a black bumper and 235 in the beginning of the plate.
Like last week’s attack, an area check was unsuccessful. Police have not said if they think the incidents are related, but they did announce last week that five Level 3 sex offenders have recently moved into several Southeast Seattle neighborhoods.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspect or vehicle is asked to call 911.
